What is it about the bow?
Maybe it’s that bows were just everywhere during our childhood. Or maybe it’s about how they held our shoes together, and the ribbons in our hair, taking something that’s purely functional and making it so pretty and whimsical.
A simple little knot, executed with a little care and voilà! Magic!
So in celebration of the bow, here are our top 5 reasons why we love the bow:
It makes for the perfect frock.
That lovely frock we wore, got a whole lot more lovely, when our mums tied the perfect little bow behind it. Cinching it at the waist, with the ends of the ribbons at equal height, double the length of the width of the bow. Perfection.
When our shoelaces were tied, and we saw them in double.
Resting sweetly on our feet, turning an otherwise plain pair of canvas shoes into something cute.
That little detail on the frill above our sock.
A teeny-tiny bit of satin against lace and cotton. *sigh*
The ingeniousness of it all!
Remember the first time we made a satin bow? And how marvellous it was? The way it just sat there on your palm, pure perfection conjured with a ribbon?
Or maybe it is that we’re basically just gifts to mankind.
And the bow’s just to help them realize it!
