Everybody loves a good comfy pair of canvas shoes, sneakers or flats. You know, the pair that you turn to on a day to day basis.
Unfortunately however, there comes a time in our lives when we’d cringe at the thought of wearing them. And that’s on a rainy day.
The thought of wet shoes, with wet feet steeping about in it with the thwack and plish of water being sucked and released out of the vacuum that is the arch of our feet…is just plain disgusting.
Desperately, we turn to a pair of rubber slippers (also gross, but significantly less gross), and so we begin to make our way around the city with our feet dressed like a hobo’s.
BUT THERE IS A WAY TO AVOID THIS!
And that is by rain-proofing your shoes.
Get yourself a bar of beeswax. It’s available on Amazon and at Rs. 330 for 500 grams, think of all the shoes you can save from the rain. And the dry feet! And if you have some left over, you can always try making your own lip balm, candles or body lotion by following the instructions here (And there’s more where that came from! Hello, Google!)
Keep your shoes and a lump of beeswax in front of you. And using a hairdryer, start warming up the beeswax till it begins to get soft and melt-y. Then, rub the wax onto your shoes. It’ll appear white at first but cover every inch of the shoes with it. Now run the hairdryer over your shoes, and voila! Watch the beeswax become transparent.
