MONSOON MAGIC—NATURAL BEAUTY TIPS FOR THE RAINS! INTOTO

The monsoons are about to descend, and you need some fool-proof methods to survive these three months. It’s a tricky time for our skin, as we battle the humidity of the monsoons while dealing with the heat in-between the showers. Here, we list some of our favourite, all-natural tips to keep you looking your monsoon best!

NATURAL FACIAL SPRAY

Boil the petals of a rose or any other flower you can find, such as white plumerias found in your building or community garden. You can also add some green tea leaves. Strain and cool the water. Fill in a spray bottle and refrigerate. Spray on your face for instant toning and glow.

NATURAL CLEANSER

Nothing beats coconut oil when it comes to removing make-up and dirt. It leaves your face baby soft and clean and you don’t need an added moisturizer. It is a much better option than expensive and chemical- laden mineral-oil based make-up removers.

ESSENTIAL OIL RESCUE

Peppermint essential oil is a coolant unlike any other! You can pour this oil into your shower gel bottle. A 250 ml bottle of shower gel will need about hundred drops of peppermint oil. Sniffing the oil will also cure headaches that are common during the monsoons. Use sparingly because it is very strong and never use it without dilution.

STRAWBERRY SCRUBS

Buy strawberries from a street vendor. Soak them overnight to clean them. Grind them in a mixer the next day and store the puree in the fridge. Use the puree as a natural body scrub. Apply it on dry skin, scrub a little with your hands, let it dry, and wash it off for the freshest, most fragrant and eco-friendly bathing experience ever!

LEMON WATER

Cut a lemon into quarters and place in your water bottle. Add some mint leaves and basil seeds. Top it with water and keep refilling. The water will have a zingy flavour and you will want to drink more of it. Mint and lemon also help detoxify the body, which is essential during the monsoons. Basil seeds are cooling, so add them in the dry days when it gets unbearably hot and humid.

RAID THE KITCHEN

This monsoon, avoid buying the commercial face packs, instead make your own! Multani mitti with water, besan with lemon juice, banana with rose water, powdered orange peel with papaya and almond milk— these are just some of the face packs that’ll make your skin look great in the monsoon. Why not make your own combinations as per what suits your skin? Raid the kitchen and start experimenting!
