Fashion designer Monica Chopra gives you tips to beat the heat and look super-cool this summer! Here are her ten tips to get summer-ready!
DITCH THE JEANS
You will be surprised at how wonderful you start to look and feel once you decide to explore a range of “other things” to wear (who wants to wear dark heavy jeans on a hot summer day?). Maxis, dresses, skirts, shorts, linen/ cotton pants, dhoti pants, draped printed pants, palazzos… oh the list is endless!
WEAR MORE WHITE
The choices for a causal look are endless. But for a more formal look, white suit and blazers are very in vogue and look pristine in the heat. For a more lunch outing, a white day dress with a bright coloured gladiator shoes can look smouldering.
A CHIC HAIRCUT
Yes, that’s a fashion must-do this summer! A haircut emotionally lightens up your system and makes you look every bit gorgeous and summer-ready! Just make sure the haircut is low-maintenance!
Take your pick from the variety that are in vogue and pick one that you’re comfortable in and suits your personality. Go retro or settle for the safe aviators that suit almost every face shape. Wear them as often as possible but we don’t recommend wearing them inside coffee shops and restaurants, unless you want to look like a wannabe!
Summer equals sweat and you want to be careful about make-up. Invest in good quality brands and stay away from anything that will smudge or disappear – lots of organic brands and natural cosmetic companies will offer a range that’s less harmful to the skin. Pastels and natural hues for the lips, tinted cheeks, just add some dazzling color for the eyes and keep it simple.
NO SYNTHETICS PLEASE
Wearing synthetic fabrics on a hot summer day plays havoc with the skin and your body’s ability to cool your body temperature in the heat. Avoid it like the plague. Buy cottons, linens and breathable fabrics and look away from the cheap but very attractive prints of synthetics. They’ll be around till the monsoons waiting for you.
JUST DO IT
Whether you are a size XS OR XL, it matters not! Summers are the best time to discover the real goddess in you. So if you’ve always secretly wanted to try wearing a sleeveless short dress or those hot hot-pants, and kept procrastinating about joining the gym, ‘Just Do It’ this summer we say and send us a picture of your new avatar!
BE A WATER BABY
If you are as excited as us about summer breaks and the possibility of being in the waters/ beaches, get yourself a wardrobe that spells – ‘WATER BABY’ – Swimsuits/ bikinis, sarongs, shorts, tube dresses. Make your style one of its kind by accessorizing with colourful anklets and jewellery.
RAINBOW IN MY POCKET.
Go colour-crazy this summer! Get yourself a colour makeover by buying a shade in every hue of the rainbow. Basking in the clear blue skies wearing a happy shade of green or yellow is sure to get you lots of attention and happy cheer!
OUR FINAL WORDS
For this who love the sun, it’s time to party! For those who dislike the summer, this too shall pass! Drink lots of nimbu paani, stay hydrated, sun-screen yourself and protect yourself with a scarf or umbrella if you’re always out in the sun.
