It’s one of those things we pay attention to during the important, more game-changing days in our lives. Be it a job interview or a date, we can’t help but obsess a bit over what we wear. Because impressing a third party often starts with impressing ourselves. Confidence in one’s own abilities is a great way to instill confidence in another. Feeling great about yourself is a start in getting others to feel great about you as well. So why can’t we practice this more often? Dressing up can be a stress-buster and a confidence booster. It allows you to exude a more confident vibe making you more approachable or respectable to others, and making it seem like “YOU GOT THIS”. But it can be a bit daunting to get your A-Game on every single time. Here are a few things you can remember while getting your wardrobe together, to keep putting your dressy foot forward! 1. Fit. Have a few items in your wardrobe that just fit like a glove? Get them replicated in different fabrics if you must. Find bargains on high quality brands that will look good and also last you long.Get more items in your wardrobe that just fit you great. 2. Go dark. Shop darker colours not just because they’re slimming, but because you can get away with almost any faux pas with a dark colour. Spilt food doesn’t show so easy, and if it’s a cheaper fabric in your garment, it’s likely you won’t be able to tell till you feel it. 3. Make a point. Good communication starts with thinking about your audience and streamlining your communication. So if your bead-y earrings from Linking Road isn’t going to communicate the right message at your interview, don’t pair it with that suit. So go ahead and dress up. Look sharp. It’ll take some stress off your look and off your whole day.

But there are a few things we have to do for ourselves to take care of our health and well-being, and it’s time they became mandatory. It’s staying healthy. Living full out, means living with a little care. And here’s a few things you can do to ensure it. 1. Visit the Doctor Depending on how sexually active you are visit your doctor for a routine pap smear every 1-3 years. 2. Go on birth control And it’s not just to help you avoid pregnancy. Birth control pills can help you lower risk of uterine and ovarian cancer while helping regulate your menstrual cycle. 3. Get some sleep Sleep can help you de-stress. Sleep can help you function at optimal levels. A lack of sleep can put you in greater risk of heart disease…so give it a little rest, please? 4. Exercise well Working out shouldn’t just stop at cardio. Mix in some resistance training and weight training to help fight diabetes, heart disease and osteoporosis. 5. Don’t go overboard with the calcium Too much of it can increase the risk of kidney stones and. If you're under 50, shoot for 1,000 milligrams per day. If you’re over-50 women should be getting 1,200 milligrams per day mainly through diet . 6. Say no to diets Because it’s time we said hello again to a good old-fashioned balanced meal. Eat everything in moderation, and absorb all the goodness your body can take in. Don’t skimp out. 7. Genetic Testing Get genetically tested to identify any health risks you may face, and take necessary preventive measures.

This Pink October, we’re talking self exams. 40% of diagnosed breast cancers are detected by women who feel a lump during a self exam. And considering how little time it can take (and the fact that doing it feels good for the most part!) it’s the least we could do for ourselves to ensure we stay hale and healthy. Here are the ways we can do it. 1. In the shower Some women find that the easiest way to check their breasts is when the skin is wet and slippery. So the next time you take a shower, spend that time you let the water run over you, or the time when you have your conditioner on to check for lumps. Use the pads of your fingers to check, moving in a circular pattern from the outside to the centre. And make sure to check both breasts once every month. 2. In front of a mirror Stand in front of your mirror and take a good look at your breasts with your arms over your head. Focus on looking for changes in contour or your nipples, swelling and dimpling. Rest your palms on your hips and press down to flex your chest muscles and look for any changes again. But remember, both breasts are likely to not look the same naturally, so your study should be based on a comparison over time. 3. While lying down Lay down on your back and place a pillow under your right shoulder. Lift your right hand over your head and use your left hand to feel for lumps. Squeeze the nipple gently to check for any discharge. Repeat once again on the other side. Regular self exams need to become part of our routine. Because as they say, prevention is better than cure
